Inspired by the horrid outfits on campus today and a full gallon of haterade, I am ready to share :)

1. Ladies, for the last TIME, leggings are NOT pants
2. If you own hip-hugging jeans circa 2000, please donate them or refurbish in some fashion. Don't pack them up, they're not coming back.
3. Hipster thick frames are cute. Popping out the lenses on your 3D glasses and propping them on your face? Not so much.
4. High-Heeled Hunting/Timberland style boots
5. Lack of effort. Look presentable, not like you were partying all night. It doesn't look cute in class at 9am.
6. Plaid mini skirts. Unless layered in L.A.M.B. fashion, this doesn't work.
7. Clogs. Never an endorser.
8. Thin Eyebrows. I'm definitely not impressed by super thick eyebrows I've seen on the runways, but it's better than thin brows.
9. Women with barrettes in their hair. WHY?
10. Disintegrating rain boots worn with knee socks.

LGFW SS '12 - Day 1: Holts & Arthur Mendonca

Oh Wow! I'm back after a very long day, but it was well worth my achy feet.

The first day of LG Fashion Week started off by the doors opening at 6pm to a large crowd of Toronto's most fashionably dressed insiders and their entire entourages. Heels galore! And attempting to climb metal bleachers nonetheless!

the new venue, David Pecaut Square, is set up in a tent fashion presumably similar to the New York shows, but I must admit I did miss the larger Heritage Court venue for a minute there. So much room and places to take pictures! However, then I saw this venue offered free food, and I felt better.

Everyone looked amazing and dressed to the nines. Especially the FDCC workers who briskly shuffled us around while looking chic in all black attire. In case you didn't know already, fur is in for fall, as was confirmed tonight by the chic fashionistas casually taking their seats by twirling on the runway a few times beforehand. I was personally too shy and felt all eyes on me when walking to my seat, particularly during the Holt Renfrew show, so putting on a pre-show for the awaiting audience was not in the cards.

Plus, said audience didn't help! Internationally renowned individuals such as Suzanne Rogers, the Weston family, Jeanne Becker, Glenn Baxter, Stacie McKenzie, Keshia Chante, Yasmin Warsame, and Jully Black sat front row to LG's opening shows. Organizations represented included IMG, America's Next Top Model, Holt Renfrew, KentonMagazine, Fashion Television, CityTV, Flare Magazine and many many others. My mind is a blur of all the incredible people I saw and had a chance to talk to.

I got to take a quick sneak peak at the models backstage beforehand. This is their view going onto the catwalk. Slightly daunting, but the models seemed uber relaxed listening to music and sitting in hair and makeup. Speshhh, we're professionals, they all probably thought. I quickly grabbed my seat next to this:

...and away we went! Holt Renfrew started things off with an awesome runway, an elegant speech by Robin Kay (though hard to see who was speaking through the letters) and pounding music. Somehow, the "Canada Cool" theme was more than I expected, considering I only factored in a weather interpretation. Silly me, these are creative types, look deeper! Looking up into the media balconies, I could envision a Canadian Kelly Coutrone hard at work putting this all together.

To better assist in my recap I will add my favourite photos from the FDCC facebook to not annoy the blogesphere with my blackberry photos (next time I will not be too vain to wear a camera around my neck!).

Holt Renfrew

The music was a fun mashup of Beyonce's "Who Run the World (Girls)" and Beastie Boys "To All the Girls." It was an exciting start that made me want to check out some of the collections at Holts. However, none of the designers Holts displayed impressed me as much as...

Arthur Mendonca

Arthur Mendonca's show was fresh and colourful, mixing and matching brights in an Egyptian feel. Think Cleopatra at a rave! It's no wonder Rhianna and Keshia Chante and huge fans of his pieces.

These were two incredible shows I got to see and I am very grateful to have participated in such a well orchestrated elite fashion presentation here in my city. The 25th season of LG is off to a great start, and I can't wait to attend more shows during the week! Stay tuned!

That's right, forget flipping through the channels hoping to catch the last few minutes of Fashion Television or make snarky comments about reality television stars' horrid outfits, Conde Nast is at your service! The company plans on creating a full-fledged entertainment division today The New Yorker reported.

"Developing television and online programming based on Conde Nast personalities, articles, and general brands is the first priority, although movies are also a focus."

The woman behind this expansion, Dawn Ostroff has an impressive background as former president of the CW and developer of Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries. I personally love this channel and can not wait to see how this plays out! Her mission is to unleash Conde Nast personalities, fashions, talent and ideas in a way that keeps us captivated, and with her experience of doing just that, you can understand my excitement! Think "The Septemeber Issue" meets the characters of ANTM! Speaking of ANTM...perhaps this is why Andre Leon Talley as stepped down from being a jude on ANTM?!

Condé Nast Editors Will Skip Milan Fashion Week If It Conflicts With NY's.Anna has spoken. How dare Milan even have the nerve to book their event during NY Fashion Week. The fact we are all getting worked up about this is hilarious! The fashion industry can be so dramatic!

In a letter obtained by WWD and addressed to Mario Boselli, head of the Italian Chamber of Fashion, Condé Nast International chairman Jonathan Newhouse wrote that Vogue editors “like the schedule the way it is presently organized. We at Condé Nast do not want the schedule to be changed. We very much oppose moving the Milan shows earlier so that they overlap or conflict with the London fashion shows — or with the New York fashion shows or those of any market.”

Newhouse wrote that the editors of Vogue, including those of the American, Italian and French editions, will not attend the Milan shows if there is a conflict with New York or London. “They will not under any circumstances abandon the London or New York shows if the Milan shows are moved earlier,” he stated, voicing his belief that, “the best way to avoid having a problem is to maintain the schedule as it is now.”

I'm back from Japan blog family! It was unbelievable expereince and I don't even know where to begin. If you ever get the chance to travel to a destination outside of your comfort zone, just take the leap and do it! I never in a million years would have dreamed of going to Japan, and now it feels strange being back and I'm planning my next trip out there. Japanese people are so very polite, respectful, resilient, and hard-working. There's no place like home, but Japan really does put Canada to shame. Have you ever gone somewhere and when you return, you don't feel as if you fit in anymore? You've changed, but the original place hasn't and it's not the same anymore? Still great, but there's something missing. More on the trip in a bit, but for now, enjoy Miss. Stam working it!

That was my first reaction when I saw the cover of this editorial in Vogue Japan. Perhaps not as controversial as I initially recognized, but definitely audacious. Model Crystal Renn looks fantastic and I love the Brigitte Bardot feel of her hair and makeup. Makeup artist Jessica Nedza and wardrobe stylist, the fabulous Anna Dello Russo did a fantastic job! Though some have questioned the choice of actors in this movie, I'm still excited to see it! Justin Timberlake has his eager hands in too many baskets! The music scene, comedies, biopics (is that how one would classify The Social Network) and now Mr. Timberlake is trying his reaching for a starring role in an action movie! Though the concept seems forced (Inception meets Bonnie and Clyde meets Robin Hood) there is a reliability to the main characters that is intriguing. Dying young, and the fear of not being able to live life to the fullest would certainly hold many people's attention.

Did anyone catch the model appearance in the preview above? None other than Sasha Pivovarova is transitioning her talents onto the big screen (2:33 of the preview).

I know this photo spread that Beyonce did for Complex Magazine August/September 2011 has been all over the internet as of late (those of you with Tumblr know what I mean) but there is no denying that B is one of the hardest working entertainers of our generation. Album after album, and tour after tour she gives her all to her music and to her devoted fans. Though I may not hail Queen B, I can definitely respect her talent and absolutely loved this editorial. The wardrobe and Studio 54 lighting combined are surprisingly refreshing. Models take note of her blatant disregard for basic posing! Perhaps there was music playing....

The David Yurman location in TriBeCa New York is known for their Summer Soiree rooftop parties. The Yurmans chose to honor Coco Rocha and Joan Smalls (the Yurman Jewellery spokesmodel) at the corporate headquarters with a killer view of the Hudson.

“There’s something so lovely about being in the outdoors in New York City in the summertime,” said Smalls. “It’s been a busy summer and any chance I get for some relaxation in the city, I take it! As soon as I came in, I saw an image of myself [in the campaign] for the first time. To finally see everything we did that day, it’s like wow! It’s so iconic; it’s full of memories that I’ll remember forever…”

The ever socially conscious, Coco partnered with Senhoa to design a jewelry collection to further the empowerment of women removed from the sex trade in Cambodia. Through proceeds collected, these women are educated, and taught to create jewelry for a living!

" It’s actually quite amazing material that they work with,” said Coco. “Everything is going to a good cause. We don’t keep any of [the proceeds] and the Senhoa people are good about making sure the money is in the [right] hands.” Coco is looking for an avenue to merge her hard work for both Haiti and Senhoa.

We could all learn a thing or two from Coco’s endless hard work and devotion to giving.

Um. Interesting. This cover really caught my eye. It wasn't the bright colours. It wasn't the long shiny hair or bright eyed model (work Tanya). It wasn't even the oh so original fading colours in the text (I think it was eighth grade that I stopped doing that).
What really caught my eye was the cover picture. Why?? Were there no other shots Elle could of used? Any perceived hostility in my tone is completely justified given the fact I am writing this with a look of disgust still on my face. C'mon Sweden. The partially closed eye, the over edited shoulder and awkward forced smiles leaves this usually striking beauty looking amateur. Tanya is back in full force and look what this magazine does to her. Once again: c'mon Sweden.

"I Love Having a Good Time on Set"

"I love myself a cape!" Pure hilariousity. My love for Coco is continually growing, though some may believe that very statement could not be possible. Modelling just seems so effortless for her. Seeing her behind the scene footage always astounds me. She's lively, personable, and strikes pose after pose after pose with every click of the shutter. She's not afraid to try new things (including not so pretty shots that actually work - see her shots below) and is full of boundless energy! Her dramatics are great for her profession! I find it very interesting that her and her husband, James, gets to work with her quite a bit as well. They seem like a supportive team, and having that person there throughout your career must be excellent for that extra push or to lift your spirits when your bored or tired at work.

Coco just knows how to Rock It. Period. For that very reason alone she has remained one of the worlds top models for so long.

The AMAZING website The Cool Hunter, which I have been subscribed too for a little over a year, has just posted another beautiful lifestyle post. What it Feels Like To Be a Black Fashion Model

"I have been working as a model for more than three years.I’ve been photographed for Italian Vogue, Dazed & Confused and ID. I’ve modelled at Paris, New York and London Fashion Weeks, but I haven’t done Milan Fashion Week. I’ve heard from other black models that it’s much harder to get work in Milan.The successful black girls don’t even bother travelling there for castings, because they know they won’t do as well, even if they’ve walked for great designers in all the other cities. Even people from Milan will say that the fashion market there is very behind. They’d rather stick with what they know.

I’ve only had one racist comment made directly at me. I’d gone to a casting for a London fashion designer, I can’t say who. They just said: “We only want pale-skinned girls to be in our show.”To be honest, I didn’t feel emotional about it. I just thought: “Well, it’s not my fault. That’s their opinion. They are out of date, and in time, they’ll have to change; they can’t continue with that perspective.”

When I started at Premier Models, Carole [White, the founder] warned me that some designers would have outdated views, and that it’s not personal. Annie [Wilshaw, her booker at Premier] is bored with it: she says black girls have to work twice as hard to get picked up. Actually, it made me feel better that they raised the issue with me, that they weren’t awkward about it. And Annie is right: it is a lot harder for us. If a show uses 20 girls, there’ll only be space for two ethnic minorities — if that. There’s nothing to stop a fashion designer using only white girls in a show. There’s no union representation for models, and a designer can do whatever works for them.

Even though it may not be right,fashion portrays what people want to be; it reflects society,it’s the world we live in The preference for white skin seems to happen especially if a designer has been in the industry for a long time. But it’s a generalised mentality among fashion houses — they used to have mostly white customers, so it made sense to have white models, but now there are many more eastern Europeans, Asians and women from the Middle East buying fashion. Thehouses are struggling to adjust to the new market.It’s also possibly recession-related. In any time of rapid social change, people stick to what they know, and in fashion that’s the white girl.

“Shadeism” definitely exists: there are different attitudes to different shades of black. Lighter-skinned models are used more than darker-skinned ones, and if darker models are used, it tends to be for a traditional African look.

When designers create an African or tribal print, they’ll get a black girl to model it. I’d say I was in the middle of the spectrum — I’m dark-skinned, but I don’t have traditional African features, so I tend not to be stereotyped. There can also be problems with hair and make-up. Hair stylists never pack black hair products, because they don’t expect to see black girls. They can be scared to work with our hair. I wouldn’t call it racism; it’s just that finding real black hair is rare. Make-up is improving — girls such as Jourdan Dunn and Ajak doing well has helped — but sometimes, when my make-up is finished, it doesn’t look as nice as it does on white skin. They don’t know how to adjust to our skin tone.

You’ll find bitchy models, but it’s not because of race, it’s just their personality.I’ve never had any comments that have made me feel uncomfortable. Once you’ve got the job, everyone just behaves normally.I read about James Brown’s comments. [He repeatedly called the black presenter Ben Douglas a nigger and his female companion a nigger’s bitch, following the Baftas ceremony.] Maybe he was trying to be funny, but using that word is not cool, and it’s pretty out of date to find it funny.I’ve actually met James Brown — he was nice and asked me about my mother. He didn’t seem racist to me. When people are drunk, they say things they don’t mean. Things always go wrong when people aren’t in their right mind. Especially if you’re in the public eye, you’ll always get caught out.And if you’re in the public eye, you have a responsibility not to offend.

Even though it may not be right, fashion portrays what people want to be; it reflects society, it’s the world we live in.The idea of fashion looking better on white skin is associated with an old sense of elitism, yet society has become much more diverse.In time, I think fashion will change.

Fashion is always outrageous, though, and famously politically incorrect. The bitchiness is part of that outrageousness. If fashion stuck to the rules, it wouldn’t be such a big industry. Even if racism went away completely, they would find something else to be outrageous about.I would like to see fashion be more open and less prejudiced to different ethnicities, but it is the way it is because it’s such an exclusive world. Its exclusivity is why people want to be in it. If fashion had a broader perspective of beauty, would there be such a thing as a supermodel?

As it is now, if a black girl does well, it’s seen as more of an achievement. That’s what drives me to succeed. I don’t think talking about racism in fashion will change anything. Even if fashion changes, it’s not going to change the world. I’d rather just have a positive attitude. If I were feeling discriminated against, I might go into a casting thinking I’m not going to get this job. It’s negativity that will disadvantage me."

Cadbury chocolate, in comparing the model to the chocolate, have brought a lawsuit upon themselves. The model personally offended has not held back. Naomi Campbell after seeing the unauthorized advertisement using her image stated:

"I'm shocked. It's upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women. It is insulting and hurtful."

It's unclear if Naomi had rights to this picture and can pursue legal action, but she has urged black consumers to boycott the Kraft Foods-owned company's products. And for their part in this, Cadbury has pulled all the ads and released a statement saying,

"We would never produce any type of marketing we felt might cause offense to any section of society."

Personally, I'm not a fan of even leaving the house without at least some concealer and lip gloss.

But these models put insecurities to the side and were shot with no makeup, hair, or styling for the launch of London's new Viva Modelling Agency. The black and white images are stunning and it appears there was no retouching, but we must remember, these women are models for a reason.

Natalia Vodianova, Raquel Zimmermann and '90s supermodel Kirsty Hume were a few of the models that sat for photographer Scott Trindle. Viva's director Natalie Hand told the British glossy, "They looked really beautiful. The blemishes added to their charm."

It's a primal need! These days, models eat (I hope) and you should too. The fact that body image is regularly on the minds of so many young people, including myself, is frustrating because food is something that should be enjoyed, not agonized over. So many aren't as fortunate and it's like a slap in their faces when we starve ourselves just to fit in a dress. Personally, I plan on taking steps this summer to not think about it as much, and chomp down on BBQ, slushies, cold salads, ice cream and just eat like a Queen! Join me? Heidi Klum has launched her first every lifestyle website by teaming up with AOL and creating something similar to Tyra's 'Type F" website that launched earlier this year...but not exactly as good. Klum's version does have beauty, fashion, and expert advice from Heidi's team but still seems incomplete. The most intriguing part if Heidi's Look of the Day page; hopefully it's a real look into her style. The video below is of Heidi 'moving in' to her office for the first time was a cute introduction to the first person of her team, her interior designer, and displays the models 'acting' chops.

The 17 year-old Lindsey Wixson has heard it all this past week.
After stumbling over, and over, and over again at Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief runway event, the young rising model at least kept a positive attitude. She even gave the thumbs up after her first spill, and did an interview soon after stating "I'm over it already. It was a mixture of the dress being too long and me walking too fast. I think I hadn't had enough water, I was maybe a bit dehydrated."
Face of McQueen? Check.
Face of Chanel makeup? Check.
Dancing lessons form Madonna? Check.
Unique feature to shoot her to stardom? Have you seen her gap toothed doll face?
Fact is, this teen has done more in her two years of modelling before even becoming a senior in high school, than some in the fashion industry have accomplished in decades. She's even still to shy to tell her friends back in Kansas about the cool things she's doing (flying first class in a pod to Beijing!) because she's scared it will seem boastful. She's a true professional with the ability to brush it off and move on to the next catwalk.

Another day, another long absence from my beloved blog.
